The Whitfield’s

16 Nov

My great-grandparents Paul & Elizabeth Whitfield resided in Raleigh, North Carolina. Great-grandpa Paul is my brickwall ancestor – with a mystery surrounding his “surname.” One tale is that he took the name from another passenger aboard the ship upon which he immigrated from Marseilles, France.

sometimes “solving” one only opens up an even bigger mystery.. for example — we always knew my Gr-Grandma as Elizabeth and only recently discovered her first name is Lola…as she had listed her name on her husband Paul’s death certificate.. she also reported the names of his parents…which “supports” the Whitfield lineage..??? But know marriage or birth record can be substantiated with those “parents.” We’re thinking she was in on his “secret.”
